Professor Emeritus Kevin R. Johnson served as a Stewart Visiting Professor at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law the week of Oct. 26.

Johnson delivered a community talk about the legacy of late Professor Michael A. Olivas and immigration in the Supreme Court. He also presented an article he co-authored with Professor Gabriel “Jack” Chin on Oct. 28.

The article, “Immigration Law and Policy in Our Multiracial Democracy” (forthcoming, University of Pennsylvania Law Review), explores the anti-immigrant advocacy of the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s. Johnson and Chin analyze how immigration laws from that time have recurred throughout U.S. history and continue to affect today’s immigration law and policy.

Kevin R. Johnson is a distinguished professor of law and Chicanx Studies emeritus and director of the Aoki Center. He is the former Mabie/Apallas Professor of Public Interest Law and he served as dean of UC Davis Law from 2008 to 2024. Johnson is an internationally recognized scholar in the fields of immigration law and policy, refugee law and civil rights.
