KHOP Special Session

The application for the 2026 KHOP Special Session has now closed, and decisions have been sent to all applicants.

This spring and summer, UC Davis School of Law is piloting an expansion of the award-winning King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP) that is geared toward first-generation or low-income future law students who received their bachelor’s degree more than a year ago, and are therefore no longer eligible for the traditional King Hall Outreach Program’s Winter or Summer Sessions. Prospective 2026 KHOP Special Session students must plan to apply to law school in the fall of 2026 to begin law school in fall of 2027.

The 2026 KHOP Special Session will take place on Zoom outside normal business hours to accommodate participants who work during those hours.

The dates and times when the 2026 KHOP Special Session will meet are:

  • Monday, April 13, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)
  • Monday, April 27, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)
  • Monday, May 11, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)
  • Monday, June 8, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)
  • Monday, June 22, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)
  • Monday, July 13, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)
  • Monday, July 27, Zoom, 6:00-8:00 p.m. (PT)

In addition, 2026 KHOP Special Session participants will be enrolled in LSAT prep classes with LSAT Lab most likely from May-July, 2026. Participation in LSAT Lab classes is mandatory for 2026 KHOP Special Session participants. These classes will take place on Zoom on Sundays, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 5:30-7:00 p.m. (PT).

Participants in the 2026 KHOP Special Session will also be invited to participate in two in-person meetings of the 2026 KHOP Summer Session. These will likely take place on July 17 and July 18. Unlike the Monday Zoom meetings and LSAT prep, these are NOT mandatory for participation in the 2026 KHOP Special Session. Once the dates are confirmed, we will share more information with the 2026 KHOP Special Session participants.

As you can see, participation in the 2026 KHOP Special Session will require a significant commitment of time and work. There are seven KHOP meetings of two hours each, and the LSAT program will require fifteen hours per week. Please consider this commitment when deciding to apply.

Here are the eligibility criteria:

  • You have graduated from a four-year institution more than a year ago (March 2025 conferral and earlier).
  • You are a first-generation college student (no parent or legal guardian has a bachelor’s degree) OR come from an economically under-served community or background defined as having a household income less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines.
  • You have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher as calculated on a 4.33 scale. Cumulative GPA includes grades received from your current college, prior and current community college(s) and any other college(s) you have attended.
  • You intend to apply to law school in Fall 2026 to enroll in Fall 2027. However, you cannot be currently in the process of applying for law school enrollment.
  • You have not previously completed an outreach program at UC Davis School of Law. Prior applicants who meet the eligibility requirements are welcome to reapply.
  • You commit to attend all KHOP meetings and enrolling in our LSAT prep program (free of charge).

Here is the application process:

All applicants must complete the online application. The link to the application is at the bottom of this page. When completing the online application, you will upload the following additional documents:

  1. Academic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended
  2. A personal statement
  3. A resume
  4. Financial documents (tax returns from you as well as anyone who claimed you as a dependent)

We also require one letter of recommendation but will accept two. Applicants may not submit letters of recommendation on their own behalf. They must be sent to us directly by their authors with the accompanying waiver form. Letters of recommendation can come from a professor or an employment, internship, or volunteer supervisor. Once you’ve identified the author of your letter of recommendation:

  • Fill out and sign a waiver form and send it to your recommender.
  • Share with your recommender that letters of recommendation should describe in detail your qualifications and accomplishments they have observed.
  • Instruct your recommender to send their letter and the waiver form in PDF format as attachments to an email addressed to [email protected].

Future applicants seeking a preview of application questions for which they may wish to prepare answers in advance are advised to refer to this document.
