King Hall Immigration Law Clinic Students Free Client in Bond Hearing
A UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic client was freed from immigration custody on February 5 following a bond hearing in which she was assisted by Courtney Lafranchi '16, Vivian Zheng '16, Hanyu Bao '16, and Mai Sartawi '15.
The students and former student assisted in gathering evidence and preparing witness testimony. They are also continuing to work on behalf of the client, who claims to be a U.S. citizen and has an appeal of her citizenship case pending before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, by preparing the opening brief to the Ninth Circuit.
Holly Cooper, Associate Director of the Immigration Law Clinic, said that thanks were due not only to the students but also to the Immigration Clinic staff and the Mabie Law Library staff, who were a "tremendous asset" in this case as they provided legislative research to buttress the client's citizenship claims.
