Good Humus Ranch Visit

Thursday, Jan. 22, 2026

In January, the Small Farmer Clinic will visit Good Humus Farms in Capay Valley. Good Humus Farms is a family-owned farm from that began in 1976 by Jeff and Annie Main. The Mains have been an integral part in fighting for small farmer interests in Yolo County. The Clinic has been invited to tour the 30-acre organic farm and discuss the groundwater issues that the family has been facing.

Glide Ranch and CAFF Visit

Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2026

In February, the Small Farmer Clinic will visit Glide Ranch in Davis, CA. Glide Ranch is the home of the Community Alliance for Family Farmers (CAFF). This visit will be an opportunity for students to discuss their clinical work and meet with members of organizations that directly work with small farmers. CAFF has been a partner of the Clinic for over 2 years.

California Native Plant Foods Celebration and Symposium 

Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026

The California Native Plant Foods Celebration and Symposium, scheduled for February 10, 2026, at the UC Davis Conference Center, will bring together up to 225 Tribal leaders, academic researchers, government agencies, and food system practitioners. It is being organized by faculty, staff, and students from several UC Davis units, with Tribal community leaders and representatives playing key roles as advisors, panel speakers, discussion leaders, and cultural demonstrators.   • Cultural exchange panels led by Tribal representatives on topics including land access and traditional vegetation management, nutritional value of native plant foods, and ethical integration of native plant foods into contemporary diets and markets
  • Traditional food celebrations with tastings and demonstrations
  • Research presentations on nutritional and ecological properties of native plants
  • Business networking opportunities with sustainability leaders and food system innovators
  • Hands-on workshops on sustainable harvesting and preparation
  • Dialogue on protecting Indigenous intellectual property rights

CAFF End of the Semester Visit

In April, the Small Farmer Clinic will have its end-of-semester visit to Glide Ranch in Davis, CA. The Clinic met with representatives of the Community Alliance of Family Farmers (CAFF) to discuss the work the students have done in the past year. The Clinic is excited to continue working with CAFF.

Good Humus Ranch Visit

In April, the Small Farmer Clinic will visit Good Humus Farms in Hungry Hollow, CA. Good Humus Farms is 30-acre organic farm owned by Annie Main and her family. The Clinic has worked with Good Humus Farms over the semester to promote small farmer interests.

Full Belly Farm Visit

Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024

Small Farmer Clinic will take a field trip to Full Belly Farm in Capay Valley. Full Belly Farm is a 400-acre certified organic farm and is owned by local owners. The farm employs about 80 persons and produces an amazing diversity of vegetables, herbs, nuts, flows, and fruits. The Clinic will meet with Judith Redmond, the owner of the farm and get a tour of the grounds.

Center for Land Based Learning (CLBL) Visit 

Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024

Students will take a field trip to the Center of Land Based Learning (CLBL) in Woodland.  CLBL is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing food insecurity by training farmers how to grow crops and making food available to low-income neighborhoods, senior centers, and rural communities. The Small Farmer Clinic will meet with representatives of the CLBL and get a tour of the grounds.

Glide Ranch Visit/Home of CAFF

In September, the Small Farmer Clinic class will take a field trip to the historic Glide Ranch in Davis, California. The Glide family created a charitable trust for the ranch for the benefit of animal protection, including for rescue animals. The Small Farmer Clinic will meet representatives of the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF). Created in 1978, CAFF is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting sustainable farming systems and advocating for small farmers and rural communities.
