King Hall faculty, staff, students, and alumni welcomed the UC Davis School of Law Class of 2013 at a barbeque hosted by the Law School on August 15 at Putah Creek Lodge.
Gary F. Smith, Executive Director of Legal Services of Northern California who has frequently taught courses in public interest law and public benefits law at King Hall, has been awarded the 2010 Loren Miller Legal Services Award.
Tani Cantil-Sakauye '84 was sworn-in by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on December 3 to become Chief Justice of California. Justice Cantil-Sakauye will assume her new role officially on January 3, 2011. California voters confirmed Cantil-Sakauye to a 12-year term.
UC Davis School of Law is partnering with the California Law Revision Commission, which conducts substantive review of California law and makes recommendations to the State Legislature regarding needed reforms. The Commission has set up a staff office in UC Davis' Mrak Hall in preparation for a move into King Hall in the coming weeks.
Thanks to contributions from King Hall faculty, alumni, and donors across the nation, UC Davis School of Law has met its fundraising goal for the establishment of the John D. Ayer Bankruptcy Chair.
Dean Kevin R. Johnson and International Law Programs Director Beth Greenwood traveled to Ireland and Germany June 20-26 to expand King Hall's highly successful partnerships with the University College Dublin School of Law and the University of Cologne School of Law.
Up to 200 judges, lawyers, and legal professionals from around the world will visit King Hall between June 14 and August 20 for the 2010 UC Davis School of Law International Summer Programs, attending courses on international, transnational, and U.S. law.
Solicitor General Elena Kagan, the former dean of Harvard Law School who has been nominated by President Obama to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, has a connection to King Hall that includes participation in a 1996 UC Davis Law Review Symposium and publication of one of her relatively few scholarly articles in the UC Davis Law Review.
The Honorable Paul Igasaki '79 delivered an inspiring Commencement Address and Gabriel Zeldin '10 was presented with the Law School medal for academic achievement at the UC Davis School of Law Commencement Ceremony on May 14 at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
