Fantastic Final 2023/2024 RJSS Event

In our final talk in the 2023/24 Racial Justice Speaker Series, Project Director for Restoring Justice for Indigenous Peoples, Morning Star Gali, visited UC Davis School of Law. She fights for indigenous rights, treaties, traditional cultures, and sacred lands. Gali discussed the historical and structural impacts of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People’s crisis as well as current initiatives, and how the public can support the investigation, prosecution, and prevention of crimes against Indigenous Peoples.
The Racial Justice Speaker Series is in its fourth year. It began as a way to help the UC Davis Law community process the police killings of George Floyd and others, and to address systemic racism in U.S. society. We have brought an array of speakers to show how racism affects all areas of law and society, and many different groups.
Morning Star Gali is a member of the Pit River Tribe located in Northeastern California and serves as the California Tribal and Community Liaison for the International Indian Treaty Council. In her position, she works for the sovereignty and self-determination of Indigenous Peoples and their recognition and protection.
Professor Beth Rose Middleton Manning of the Native American Studies Department arranged for Morning Star Gali to talk in the series. We had a full house of students, faculty, and community members listen to her important message.
