Congress Members Invite Professor Shanske to Discuss GOP Budget Bill
Professor Darien Shanske spoke at a May 30 forum held by Congressional Representatives Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) and Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) to discuss the potential impact of congressional Republicans’ so-called “Big Beautiful” budget bill on the Sacramento region and surrounding areas.
Shanske joined Thompson, Matsui and local public safety experts and health care providers to discuss the highly controversial bill, which was passed by the House and awaits a vote in the Senate. In a press release on the forum, Rep. Thompson’s office contended that the bill would “slash health care coverage for nearly 14 million people, cut nutrition benefits for nearly 11 million people, and raise energy costs for families by $110 per year in order to hand a tax break to the ultra-wealthy.”
Darien Shanske is a Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis. His academic interests include taxation, particularly state and local taxation, local government law, public finance, and political theory, particularly jurisprudence.
