Daniel Watts '11 to Run for Davis City Council

Vowing to make student issues a priority with the City of Davis, Daniel Watts '11 has filed paperwork to run for one of the two seats on the Davis City Council that will be up for election in November.

In an article published in the Davis Enterprise March 17, Watts said he wants to represent the student perspective on the Council, but also to address city codes that he says are in violation of the First Amendment, including ordinances against uttering "bawdy, lewd or obscene words or epithets" and engaging in "conduct annoying to persons passing."

Watts made news in 2003 when he entered the California governor's race, hoping to force major party candidates to address the issue of rising tuition, using money he had won as a contestant on the television game show "Wheel of Fortune" to pay the $3,500 filing fee.  At King Hall, he has been active in several student organizations, serving as Law Students Association Secretary, co-chair of ACLU at King Hall, Federalist Society President, co-editor in chief for the King Hall Advocate, and musical director for Law Capella, among other positions.
