Investigation of Syrian War Crimes by Chris Engels '04 Featured in The New Yorker

Chris Engels '04, who leads the regime-crime unit of the Commission for International Justice and Accountability (CIJA), is featured prominently in an article in The New Yorker on CIJA's efforts to document the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's culpability in acts of torture, murder, and other crimes.

Under Engel's direction, CIJA has collected more than 600,000 documents that have been smuggled at great risk out of Syria and which implicate the Assad regime in various crimes.  Engels and others at CIJA believe that if charges are brought in the International Criminal Court, enough evidence has been acquired to convict Assad and his associates on several charges of crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, and other inhumane acts.
