On March 9, King Hall hosted a discussion of "Authorship and the Promise of Digital Dissemination," an event co-sponsored by UC Davis School of Law with the Davis Humanities Institute, the Institute for the Social Sciences, and the Center for Science and Innovation Studies Innovating Communication in Scholarship Project.

The event featured speakers including King Hall's Senior Associate Dean Madhavi Sunder and Professor Mario Biagioli as well as UC Davis English Professor Stephanie Boluk, UC Davis Biology Professor Jonathan Eisen, UC Davis Science and Technology post-doctoral scholar Alexandra Lippman, UC Santa Cruz Professor of Film and Digital Media Rick Prelinger, award-winning science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson, Author's Alliance founder and the Richard M. Sherman '74 Distinguished Professor of Law and Information Management at UC Berkeley Pam Samuelson, and UC Davis University Librarian MacKenzie Smith.

The informal, broad ranging discussion touched on the Google Books copyright lawsuits and open access publishing of academic works. More details are available via Associate Dean Sunder's Faculty Blog entry on the event.
