King Hall Students Place Fifth in 2016 ABA National Final Negotiation Competition
On February 5-6, King Hall sent two students to compete in the 2016 ABA National Law Student Negotiation Competition in San Diego. Katie Rogers '17 and Trevor Fehr '17 qualified for the national competition after placing third in the Regional Law Student Negotiations Competition for the Ninth Circuit late last year.
The competitors completed two primary rounds against winning teams from other regions and then advanced to the second day of the competition, which consisted of the semi-finals. This year's focus was information law. In each round, a panel of judges evaluated the teams based on a variety of factors such as strength of partnership, comprehensive knowledge of facts, professionalism, and negotiation strategy.
Katie Rogers '17 and Trevor Fehr '17 tied for fourth in the preliminary rounds and narrowly missed advancing to finals after they lost a tie breaker.
The King Hall Negotiations Team (KHNT) would like to thank the Dean's office for its financial support and Accounting Assistant Shelley Lopez-Emerson for her guidance in booking the travel. KHNT also thanks Professor Donna Shestowsky, KHNT's Faculty Advisor, for coaching the teams in preparation for the competition, and further thanks the KHNT team and board members, and other student volunteers, for sparring with the competitors and helping them get ready for the competition, especially to Anna Barth '16, who served as the student coach and traveled with the team.
