King Hall Team Posts Strong Showing in ABA Negotiation Competition

King Hall Negotiations Team CompetitorsThe King Hall Negotiations Team sent three teams to the ABA Regional Negotiations Competition hosted by the University of Idaho College of Law November 11-13. UC Davis School of Law competitors included the teams of Moji Majekodunmi ’18 and Elaine Owen ’17; Danielle Lauber ‘18 and Anton Swain-Gil ’18; Bianca Rodriguez ’18 and Becca Friedemann’18, along with their student coaches Ryan Stager ‘17, Trevor Fehr ‘17, and Katie Rogers ‘17.  The team of Lauber and Swain-Gil won Second Place.

The KHNT credits its excellent preparation program for the success. Students prepared for more than four weeks by strategizing with their student coaches, receiving feedback from faculty sponsor Professor Donna Shestowsky, and sparring with current KHNT members and select students.

The preparation paid off as the level of competition was high in Idaho.  Working with competition problems concerning business law, the University of Oregon narrowly took the first spot followed by UC Davis. UC Berkeley placed third and the University of Idaho fourth. In the final round between Davis and Berkeley, the competitors where judged by a panel that included the Honorable Jim Jones of the Idaho Supreme Court. Judges noted the high caliber of the round and ultimately gave the victory to Davis due to Lauber and Swain-Gil’s ability to direct the conversation forward and maintain control of the room.

The KHNT extends its sincerest appreciation to Professor Donna Shestowsky, faculty advisor, for her steadfast commitment to the Negotiations Team. KHNT also wishes to thank the dean's office for their financial support.
