Professors Dodge, Chin Make Individual Most-Cited Scholars Lists

Professor William S. Dodge is the nation’s 15th most cited international law and security scholar, according to University of Chicago Law School Professor Brian Leiter’s breakout rankings of individual scholars by area of law.

In addition, Leiter recognized Professor Gabriel “Jack” Chin as a top scholar in criminal law and procedure, including Chin among the “other highly cited scholars who work partly in this area.”

UC Davis’ faculty just placed 22nd on the Leiter list of “Top 50 Faculties in Scholarly Impact,” up a spot since 2018, the last time rankings were compiled.

The 2021 rankings cover citations from 2016-2020.

Gabriel "Jack" Chin is Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law and holder of the Edward L. Barrett, Jr. Endowed Chair at UC Davis School of Law.  He is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.

Professor Dodge is Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law and John D. Ayer Chair in Business Law at UC Davis School of Law. He is a leading expert on international law, international transactions, and international dispute resolution, who served as Counselor on International Law to the Legal Adviser at the U.S. Department of State from 2011-12 and as a reporter for the American Law Institute’s Restatement (Fourth) of Foreign Relations Law from 2012-18. Professor Dodge is a co-author of Transnational Business Problems and Transnational Litigation in a Nutshell, and a co-editor of International Law in the U.S. Supreme Court: Continuity and Change, which won the American Society of International Law’s 2012 certificate of merit. He has authored more than 60 other publications in books and law reviews.
