Pennsylvania Supreme Court Cites Professor Joslin

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court cited Professor Courtney Joslin’s scholarship in deciding Glover v. Junior, a case that raised the question of the parental status of a lesbian spouse regarding a child born through assisted reproduction during the parties’ marriage.

The court held that the spouse was a legal parent. The ruling affirmed a principle reflected in the law of many states around the country — that the people who mutually intend to bring children into the world through assisted reproduction should be recognized as parents and held accountable for that deliberate, procreative conduct.

Professor Joslin is a leading scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples. She is a two-time Dukeminier Award recipient and the 2023 recipient of UC Davis Law’s Distinguished Teaching Award.
