Professor Jaime Comments on Divorce Law for Associated Press

Professor Krystal Callaway Jaime commented on a proposed change to California's divorce laws for a story by the Associated Press.  Spurred by a Southern California case in which a woman attempted to hire a killer to do away with her husband and later collected $70,000 from their estate after her release from prison, AB 2674 would close a loophole in the state's no-fault divorce code to specify that spouses who solicit the murder of their husband or wife cannot collect money in divorce proceedings.

"This bill is very, very necessary," Jaime said. "It seems obscure, but this does happen more frequently than people realize."

Professor Jaime is the supervising attorney for the School of Law Family Protection and Legal Assistance Clinic.  Prior to joining the King Hall Faculty, Krystal had a private practice in Woodland, California, where she represented individuals in family law and personal injury actions.
