Professor Jorjani Speaks at ‘Facing Race 2008' Conference
Raha Jorjani, staff attorney with the UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic, spoke on two panels at the Applied Research Center's "Facing Race 2008" conference in Oakland November 13-15. Jorjani was part of the panel for workshops on "Demonization, Detention, and Deportation: Fighting Immigration Enforcement in Communities of Color" and "Tragic Triple Threat: Challenging The Compounding Systems of Incarceration, Deportation, and Child Welfare."
Founded in 1981, the Applied Research Center investigates the hidden racial consequences of public policy initiatives and develops new frameworks to resolve racially charged debates. The conference brought together community organizers, academics, legal advocates, journalists and other media experts, researchers, students, and policy leaders from around the United States to explore racial issues.
