Erika Budrovich ’18 Joins Professor Bennoune at UN General Assembly

Bennoune and BudrovichErika Budrovich ’18 will accompany Professor Karima Bennoune as she presents her first report to the United Nations General Assembly on October 26 in New York City.  Acting in her capacity as United Nations Special Rapporteur in the field of cultural rights, Professor Bennoune will present her report on the intentional destruction of cultural heritage.

"I am thrilled to accompany Professor Bennoune to the United Nations for her presentation of her report on intentional destruction of cultural heritage,” said Budrovich. “I find this is a compelling and relevant issue since ideologies that promote such destruction still present a real danger to cultural heritage around the world.”

Budrovich will also accompany Professor Bennoune to “Time to End Intentional Destruction of Cultural Heritage: A human rights call to action,” a discussion of the report that will take place on October 27 at UN Headquarters, featuring heritage heroes from countries including Iraq and Afghanistan.  (The panel is open to the public, but RSVPs are required by October 24.  Register online here.)

“This will be an incredible opportunity to learn about current international human rights issues and meet with experts, lawyers, and activists who are passionate about human rights,” Budrovich said. “I am incredibly grateful to King Hall for this unique opportunity to experience international law firsthand."
