On Oct. 18, Professor Kevin R. Johnson spoke at the California Latino Bench-Bar Leadership Summit hosted by UCLA Law. Johnson participated in a panel, "Justice in Flux," where he discussed immigration on the Supreme Court in the early months of the second Trump administration.

Professor Afra Afsharipour was interviewed on Marketplace for an Oct. 14 segment, "Megadeals have driven most merger and acquisition activity this year." Afsharipour discussed how megadeals, with values higher than $10 billion, often trigger international regulatory scrutiny.

In a San Francisco Chronicle op-ed, Professor Brian Soucek writes that the Trump administration's "compact" for higher education has a dangerous provision that is easy to miss. Soucek argues in his Oct. 15 piece that the call for "institutional neutrality at all levels" poses a grave threat to the mission of universities.

Professor Kevin R. Johnson participated in an Oct. 7 panel at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, "Race, Immigration and Mass Removals." The lecture was part of the Chicanx/e & Latinx/e Studies Program speaker series, “Building Communities of Care and Resilience in Times of Crisis.”

Professor Lisa Pruitt spoke to The Guardian for an Oct. 7 story, "Rural US town outraged as only hospital forced to shut." The story covers the impact of a hospital closure in the far north of California's Central Valley. The article details how Glenn Medical Center served nearly 28,000 people who will now have to travel more than 30 miles for emergency care.

UC Davis Law Professor Lisa R. Pruitt has assumed the presidency of the Rural Sociological Society (RSS), a professional organization dedicated to promoting knowledge about rural people and places and aiming to elevate the quality of life in rural communities. Her term leading RSS began at its annual meeting on Aug. 2 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
